Coach of the Year
The criteria used in the selection process of the Coach and Developmental Coach of the Year by the USOC (with points for production of athletes) is incorporated as well as additional criteria outlined below. The Coaching Committee's consensus is overwhelming that this system is objective and is less restrictive in allowing some flexibility in the process.
Criteria - USAW Coach of the Year
- Coach must be currently/actively coaching lifters.
- Coach must be at least a USAW Regional Coach.
- Coach must have signed off on USOC Coaching Ethics Code.
- Coaches will receive one point for every lifter they coach who participates in the National Championships.
- Coaches will receive one point for each National Team Coaching assignment during the period from July 2007 - July 2008 of the year of selection.
- Coaches will receive two points for each lifter they have on the Super Squad and one point for each lifter they have on the Regular or Junior Squad.
- The coach will receive one point for each USAW Coaching Education Course they assisted on, each National Squad Camp they assisted on, and two points for each USAW Coaching Course they directed or each Squad Camp in which they were Head Coach. These would be for the time period from July 2007 - July 2008.
- The coach with the highest aggregate will be classified as Coach of the Year and their nomination sent to the USOC.
Criteria - NGB Developmental Coach of the Year
- The coach must be currently actively coaching.
- The coach must be at least at Club Coach qualification level in the USWF Coaching Classification.
- The coach must sign off on the USOC Coaching Code of Ethics.
- The coach will accumulate two points for each lifter who qualifies and participates in the National Junior Championships for the first time and one point for every lifter who participates for a second time or more.
- The coach will receive one point for each USAW Coaching Education Course in which they have assisted and each Regional or National Squad Camp on which they have been a staff member.
- The coach will receive two points for each Junior Squad member.
The coach with the highest points aggregate will be classified as Developmental Coach of the Year and their nomination sent to the USOC.
